Historical Notes

  • 1749 Town voted to support the gospel
  • 1763 First meeting house was built in Peterborough and decided to seek a minister
  • 1772/1777 Second meeting house was built on East Hill
  • 1825-26 Present church building was built
  • 1834, two stoves provided heat, then in1876, they were replaced by a furnace
  • 1926 The church no longer sold pews. Pew records retained
  • 1975 New slate roof 
  • 1976 Sesquicentennial (150th year) and restoration of church
  • 2003 Historic Tracker organ restored and re-dedicated
  • 2003 PUUC becomes a Welcoming Congregation
  • 2009 PUUC earns Green Sanctuary status
  • 2020 Rev. Dr. David Robins named Minister Emeritus
  • 2026 Accessible chancel renovation
  • 2026 200th anniversary of Church building
