Sermon: Caregiving

Rev. David Robins

November is National Caregivers Month.

  • Care giving is one of the most complex activities in life. It is complex emotionally, with feelings ranging from guilt to love. It is complex financially, for the care giver and for the one cared for.
  • Care giving brings a complexity of time, balancing jobs, care giving and other activities and responsibilities.
  • Care giving is complex spiritually. CAregiving, whether of brief or long duration can be viewed as a kind of calling. Sometimes the choice is easy, other times deeply unsure.
  • Care giving is complex because we want to bring grace and love. We want to learn about ourselves, our character, and learn more deeply about the other person. I cannot deny the equal parts of uncertainty and confusion.
  • Care giving is complex because our unselfishness lives and breathes closely in our minds with a yearning to replenish our own inner spiritual and emotional reservoir.
  • Care giving is complex because we want to bring faith, hope and love, like a gentle wind
