Guest Polly Peterson will explore the importance of poetry in Unitarian Universalist services as a legacy of our Transcendentalist forebears. She says, "Poets who find their way into the sermon include Mary Oliver, William Wordsworth, Ralph Waldo Emerson,  Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, and Stanley Kunitz."

Polly is currently a member of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Amherst, Massachusetts. She was a member of First Parish Unitarian Universalist of Concord (MA) for 25 years before moving to Amherst, and while there, she became deeply interested in the lives of Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, the Alcott family, Margaret Fuller, and other 19th-century Transcendentalists. Since moving to Amherst, Polly has immersed herself in the poetry of Emily Dickinson, and she is now a guide at the Emily Dickinson Museum.
