Robert Fischer – Husband of Loraine Fischer

Robert Fischer, husband of Loraine and father of Anne, passed away at the age of 88 at Summerhill Assisted Living in Peterborough on August 19. Bob was a founding member of the Starr King UU Fellowship in Plymouth, NH. He attended conferences on Star Island for more than 40 years. After retiring from teaching in Connecticut, he and Loraine had a small farm in New Hampton, NH. He served as Selectman for the town of New Hampton and was on the Conservation Commission. He served as president of the Lakes Region Retired Teachers Association and was active on the Fellowship's social justice committee, in Veteran’s for Peace and on the Pemi River Council. Bob and Loraine moved to Peterborough in 2005. In addition to Loraine and Anne, he is survived by a son, Rob, and daughter, Lynne, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. At his request there is no service. The family will scatter his ashes in a private ceremony in New Hampton.

 

 

Betty Hartnett   --  Laura Gourlay’s Mother

On Friday, August 28, 2015, Elizabeth “Betty” Hartnett, 83, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Center in Trumbull, CT. She was the wife of the late John Francis Hartnett, and they were married for 43 years.

Betty was born in Newton, Mass., the daughter of John Amos Murphy and Mary Clark Murphy, and was one of 12 children. She attended Boston University’s Sargent College, graduating with a degree in physical education. For several years, she taught physical education in Westchester, New York before going to work for the U.S. Army as a teacher in schools at German and French military bases, where she met her husband.

Betty leaves three daughters, Aimee Ballard of New Milford, CT; Laura Gourlay of Peterborough, NH; and Beth Lazar of Milford, CT, and four beloved grandsons, Ethan and Becket Gourlay, and Alexander and Justin Lazar. Of her 11 siblings, three brothers survive her.
