Not Just Any Magicians

THE Magic Show March 14 at 4 pm will spotlight the talents of six skilled magicians. Among them is comedy illusionist Ben Pratt, who has been named the Best Stage Magician in the Greater New England Magic Contest for two consecutive years. Bob Bodman and Joseph Caulfield (Lord BlackSword) garnered awards at the 2014 New England Magic Convention in Concord. Bodman of Merrimack was named Best Parlor Magician, while Joseph Caulfield (Lord BlackSword) of Lyndeborough, was named Best Mystery Magician.

Tickets to this amazing afternoon of magic are selling quickly. Do you have yours?

Purchase tickets from Toadstool Bookstores in Peterborough or Milford and Steeles in Peterborough. $8 for adults and $5 for children over three.

What a fun way to support our church!  (50% proceeds from ticket sales go to supporting PUUC operating budget)

From the Treasurer

Dear Members and Friends,

We are two- thirds of the way through our fiscal year.  Ask yourself.  Are you two- thirds of the way through your pledged giving?

Last month's snow brings many undesired consequences.  Our pledge revenue shortfall is one.  We are 55% collected, not 67%.

Please help us back to solvency.

New Group Forming

All retired men are invited to help create a new men's group, temporarily called the PUUC’s CEMG (Chronologically Enhanced Men's Group)!

A few men have met four times and we would like to invite others to join. Currently we are meeting twice a month, on the first and third Thursday evening at 7pm.

The aim of the group at this point is to help men connect with other men, make new friends, share experiences, provide peer support, and plan shared activities. Each meeting is hosted by a different member at their home. Please join us Thursday March 19 at Jim Fearnside's home at One Sand Hill Road #22, Peterborough, at 7pm.

This meeting, besides a check in, we will talk about how much are we like our fathers and is that a good thing?

If you have any questions please call Jim Fearnside at 924-2965   Call or email Jim at jim_fearnside@juno.com if you are planning on attending.

The Buddhist Meditation Group will be meeting at 7 pm this Thursday,March12th.  Come join us!  Following an hour of silent meditation (both walking and sitting), there will be refreshments followed by the beginning of our discussion of Thich Nhat Hanh's book,The Miracle of Mindfulness, An Introduction to the Practice of Meditation. .  This week we will discuss the Translator's Preface (which describes the context in which this book was written) and Chapter 1 "The Essential Discipline".  Reading the chapters is suggested, but not necessary for the discussion.

For those who cannot come, here are two simple exercises from our new book that you might like to try:

Half-smile when you first wake up in the morning: Hang a branch, any other sign, or even the word "smile" on the ceiling or wall so that you see it right away when you open your eyes.  This sign will serve as your reminder.  Use these seconds before you get out of bed to take hold of your breath.  Inhale and exhale three breaths gently while maintaining the half smile. Follow your breaths.

Half-smile when irritated: When you realize you're irritated, half-smile at once.  Inhale and exhale quietly, maintaining the half smile for three breaths.

Meditation instruction is available for those who wish it.  All are welcome.  NOTE:  We meet in the stage area at the back of the Parish Hall.  The Parish Hall itself is dark, so be sure to come to the back door next to the Kitchen in order to find us!  Though punctuality is helpful, you are welcome to join regardless.   Feel free to call Nori Odoi or Rags Gilmore at 603 547-2650 if you have questions about this or any other issue.

Welcoming Tips

It’s okay if newcomers don’t answer your questions.  Sometimes we ask questions that others may choose not answer for a variety of reasons.

Intergen Services

We need greeters who will be working closely with the children on Music Sunday, March 29th and on Easter Sunday, April 5th. Please consider volunteering for these positions. It’s going to be fun!

Community

Anyone want to bicycle the Maine Coast with me? USA Bike Tours offers a self-guided tour, where someone shuttles your gear every day. It's 9 days at a relaxed pace of 27-35 miles per day.  We start and end in Portland where we are shuttled to Damriscotta and ride to Acadia National Park. We can make our own group. I want to start June 1st or 2nd and finish the 10th or 11th. Check out www.usabiketours.com. Look for Pedal the Coast SG. There are more details and the itinerary. Call or email me, Suzy McDonald 206-491-7499 or smcdonaldmn@yahoo.com

And now some quotes that speak to me in this moment:

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
― H. Jackson Brown Jr.P.S. I Love You

Disappointment to a noble soul is what cold water is to burning metal; it strengthens, tempers, intensifies, but never destroys it.
